I am especially thankful for all the relationships I have built with my patients here at CIMS.  I would like to share with you some vital information that can be helpful if you or any of your family and friends are raising children.

Every infant goes through a natural process of development over their first year of life…crawling, rolling, squatting are all typical patterns that can be observed.  Each of these milestones is essential for the ideal development of movement and stabilization for your child’s use throughout the rest of his or her life.  It is also good to be aware of the details when it comes to when your child should be crawling, rolling, or squatting.

Here is a quick guide:

  • 6th month- your child should be capable of rolling over from their backs to their bellies and that includes to both sides.
  • 9th month-Crawling is typically begun at the nine month mark and continues until upright walking is perfected, which coincidentally isn’t necessary until about 14-16 months.
  • 11-12th month-The squat pattern is utilized by children.

If you happen to notice that your child has not quite on the mark of some or any of these movement patterns, do not worry, variation is normal and typically of no real consequence.  However, if you have questions or concerns and would like to have your infant or child evaluated, to see if there are any significant developmental delays and to put a plan in place, please don’t hesitate to contact our office, I would love the opportunity to work with you and your child.
